Nagesh Kukunoor is really excited about his new movie titled Aashayein. "Sometimes, you want to take on a subject that not many will touch and you want to make the ultimate love story — not the traditional one between a man and a woman, but one between man and life. Sometimes you want to take a journey to beat all journeys. You want to be reminded to live life in the moment. That is the premise of Aashayein," he says.

Aashayein was the first movie that Nagesh planned to make with Percept Picture Company. However, this film took a back seat and they went on to make other films like Dor starring Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag which received critical acclaim. "Aashayein was the first film I pitched to make with Percept. It took its time but the film finally made it to the shooting floor. It's an uplifting film. It encourages you to reach for your dreams and realise them," he explains.

Even though the film sounds philosophical and preachy, Nagesh insists it is not. Unlike his other films, Hyderabad Blues, Teen Deewarein and Iqbal, this film has quite a few songs composed by the brilliant Salim-Sulaiman duo.

The film stars John Abraham and Nagesh is very happy with his performance in the film. So much so, that he claims it’s "John’s best performance ever!" Now that’s a tall order coming from Nagesh.
