Yash Raj Films (YRF) have zeroed on small time ramp model Anushka Sharma to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in their ambitious project ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’.
Anushka, 19, is originally from Bangalore and has been a ramp model for a while. The demure looking model has done campaigns for Silk & Shine, Whisper and Fiat Palio. A statement confirming the report was issued by YRF on Friday.
The announcement seems to end the speculation that had started about the identity of the female lead ever since the film was announced.
With ‘Rab Ne..’ Aditya Chopra will take over the directorial mantle after eight long years. Previously there were reports of Sonam Kapoor, being cast opposite SRK in the same.
Yash Chopra in his statement said, "We were looking first and foremost for someone who could truly embody the spirit of small town Punjab and we know we have found her in Anushka. And while she has no previous acting experience, we have seen that unique spark in her that makes us confident that she will be a standout even opposite Shah Rukh."
`Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi` is expected to go on floors from May 16 and will hit theatres worldwide on December 12.
