Jimmy Cast: Mimoh Chakraborty, Vivana, Zulfi Sayed and others Director: Raj NC Sippy Rating: **
If Mimoh Chakraborty has the personality or talent to become a star, it’s not visible in his miserable debut film Jimmy. An out of form Raj NC Sippy was given the task of directing the star kid’s launch film, but his choice of script (lifted from Majboor), hilariously dim-witted dialogues (“maine tumhare vishwas ka vishwasghaat nahin kiya”) and dreadful performances, doom it to failure.
Mimoh plays Jimmy, an automobile engineer by day and DJ by night, and is given a lot of dances — but the Michael Jackson style ‘Moonwalk’ steps are outdated and do not suit his bulky frame. As it is, he has the body of a WWF fighter, with his mother Yogita Bali’s round face, long, badly styled hair and a squeaky voice — not at all an appealing package. He could still perhaps play a dumb action hero, if someone takes the trouble to re-style and relaunch him after this debacle.
As his romantic interest he has a hopeless newcomer (Vivana), and for a friend, a hammy Zulfi Sayed. Plus there’s a weepy mother who is constantly giving Jimmy breakfast (a plate of unhealthy white bread, egg and cutlets!) and exhorting him to pay his dead father’s debts. Even if Mimoh Chakraborty was the best actor on earth, this film would take him nowhere. Still, worse star sons have survived, with the right push, who knows where this one will reach.
